Something as simple as pretty tableware displayed on open-shelving can really change the look of a kitchen.  The warmth of the wooden floors, stools, and island countertop, is echoed subtly over the crisp subway tiles through the floating shelves used to display the lovely mis-matched tableware.

RUSTIC IN THE CITY

Victorian homes have so much charm and character, and robbing an old dame of her dignity whilst freshening up her look would be utterly shameful.  Play to the strengths of an older property by incorporating some the original features in your new design.

Merging elements from traditional and modern design styles work exceptionally well when updating an older home. The original oak floors of this home set the tone for this farm-style kitchen.  Many traditional design elements have been retained here, they have been complemented by the addition of contemporary features such as concrete countertops and trendy dark blue cabinet fronts.

Natural light is the best kind of lighting for showcasing the features of your kitchen design.  Leaving a window undressed does not mean that you have not considered it as part of your design.  If however, you require privacy from neighbours a simple blind would be very complimentary to this style.

Tiles are able to change the look of a room in an instant.  Wall tiles are practical and make keeping your kitchen clean a breeze.

Cookbooks should be easily accessible if you are planning to use them frequently.  An open shelf built specifically for this purpose creates an opportunity for you to display your love of cooking in a delightful manner.

A wine cooler might not be the first thing on your mind when planning your kitchen, but if you intend to make use of one in your home the kitchen is the ideal location for this appliance, unless of course your home has a bar.
